SAN SALVADOR (El Salvador) – Winning one FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup title is difficult. Winning two is a statement. Winning three in a row would make history.
The United States arrive at the FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup 2026 as defending champions in both the men's and women's competitions, with a chance to sweep the titles once again and further cement their status as the program to beat in the Americas. But while the objective remains the same, both squads face very different challenges as they look to retain their crowns.
The men's team are chasing an unprecedented third consecutive AmeriCup gold medal, but they will have to do it with a largely revamped lineup. Henry Caruso is the only holdover from the 2025 championship-winning squad, making continuity a key storyline as the Americans prepare to defend their title.
One familiar face, however, will draw plenty of attention. Jimmer Fredette returns for his second AmeriCup appearance after helping the USA win gold in 2022. One of the biggest names to ever play the halfcourt game, Fredette's shooting ability and experience could prove crucial as the Americans pursue another historic campaign.
The women's team face an even more dramatic reset. Not a single player from last year's championship-winning roster returns, and every member of the 2026 squad will make her AmeriCup debut. Yet the newcomers are hardly short on experience, with all four players bringing WNBA credentials to the halfcourt.
Aerial Powers headlines the group after featuring for the USA at three FIBA 3x3 Women's Series stops this season. Her first AmeriCup appearance offers an opportunity to translate that experience into a major contribution on the continental stage as the Americans target their fourth women's title overall.
For both teams, the challenge is clear: prove that the USA's winning tradition can withstand wholesale roster changes and the pressure that comes with being the defending champion. The men's team have history within reach, while the women must show that a new generation can keep the gold-medal standard intact.
