URU - Welcome hit top spot

MONTEVIDEO (LUB) - Welcome top the Uruguayan LUB league after being the only team to remain unbeaten after the third week of action.

Back in the top flight after one season in the second tier, Welcome reached the summit after claiming victories in each of their first four games.

Friddy Hammer's side hit top spot after a 93-83 victory over winless Sayago on Tuesday.

Welcome had to overcome a 44-30 defecit at half-time to come back and win in overtime. The teams were tied 77-77 after normal time.

Last Saturday, a 15-point, eight-rebound contribution from Kevin Nelson and 12 more from Gabriel Abratanski gave Welcome a 75-70 victory over second-bottom Olimpia.

Bigua and Trouville each boast a 4-1 record two sit second and third.

Uruguay internationals Leandro Garcia Morales and Martin Osimani poured in 23 and 20 points respectively as Bigua saw off Malvin 80-71 on Monday.

Marcelo Signorelli's side bounced back after an 82-81 defeat at Paysandu, who won thanks to a two-pointer from Nicolas Castrillon with just six seconds to go.

Meanwhile, Alejandro Gonzalez's Trouville won 82-68 at Sayago with centre Juliano Rivera top-scoring 22 points, before seeing off Defensor Sporting 84-75 on Tuesday night.

Defensor Sporting and Paysandu are level with 3-1 records, with Atenas below them on 3-2.

Atenas, meanwhile, had no problems beating Soriano 79-68 on Tuesday to recover from Friday's 60-59 defeat at Aguada.
