MONTEVIDEO (Liga Sudamericana) - Organizers liked what they saw in Uruguay last week when Aguada hosted Semi-Final Round games in the Liga Sudamericana.
With Aguada finishing second in Group F to Uniceub BRB (Brasilia) and reaching the Final Four, the South American Basketball Association (ABASU) has decided Montevideo would be the ideal place to host their showpiece event.
Bauru of Brazil and Uniceub had also expressed an interest in staging the decisive games of the competition.
Aguada will take on Bauru on 27 November and Uniceub will square off against Boca Juniors.
The title tilt and third-place clash will then be held on the 29th.
"We come from a dramatic semi-final that was played at a coliseum packed every night with a special atmosphere," said Gerazime Bozikis, president of ABASU.
"Montevideo and all the fans of Aguada left us happy.
"We thank the clubs Bauru and Uniceub for their interest in organizing. We had a nice, formidable problem with three candidates to be the venue of our grand final.
"We will return to Montevideo, to what we know will be a unique festival of South American basketball."
Aguada will now be in an excellent position to deliver a first Liga Sudamericana championship to Uruguay.
Twelve times in the history of the tournament, the winning side has been from Argentina and on five other occasions, the the champions have come from Brazil.
The only club in this year's Final Four to have captured the crown before is Uniceub.
They prevailed in 2010, and one of the team's leading players in this year's side, Brazil international Guilherme Giovannoni, was the MVP.
