MONTEVIDEO (LUB) - Bigua clinched their second straight Uruguayan League title by completing a 3-0 sweep of Defensor Sporting in the LUB play-off finals on Tuesday night.
Uruguay international guard Leandro Garcia Morales had 27 points and Argentina’s Ruben Wolkowyski weighed in with 24 as Bigua claimed a 108-99 triumph.
Garcia Morales, 28, was voted MVP of the event as Bigua became the first team to snatch back-to-back LUB crowns.
His fellow Uruguay national team guard Martin Osimani contributed 15 points and 13 assists.
In Bigua’s 85-72 Game 1 win, Garcia Morales had 20 points and then in their 96-94 Game 2 triumph, he poured in 30.
Bigua, who defeated Hebraica in last year’s Finals, had already won the Super 4 Tournament and the South American Championship for Clubs.
They also reached the Final Four of the FIBA Americas League, a title that was captured by Universo/BRB of Brazil.
Defensor had a fine start and opened a 20-14 advantage but saw that lead reduced to 25-23 at the end of the first quarter and by half-time, Bigua had gone in front 50-45.
The decisive run came with Bigua on top 89-86.
Wolkowyski, a gold-medal winner for Argentina at the 2004 Olympics, poured in six straight points – a spurt that propelled the Villa Biarritz outfit to victory.
Brian Woodward a game-high 34 points in defeat, with his Defensor teammate Chris Jackson scoring 21 and pulling down 12 rebounds.
