ANTANANARIVO (FIBA Africa Championship for Women) - Tunisia lost its second straight game on Saturday in a Group-B pairing of the 2009 FIBA Africa Championship for Women in Antananarivo, Madagascar by 62-56 points.
The unlucky Tunisian who enter the court with great determination and zeal to pick its first win after a disappointing Day-1 62-50 points lose to Cote d’Ivoire picked the first quarter by 16-08 points and when many fans thought that the Tunisian are going to go all the way they faltered in the second quarter scoring only five points to Angola 24 to move into the break with a 32-21 points deficit.
There effort to turn the table against the Angolan who had now grown in confidence in the third quarter could only yield little results as the Angolans held their ground though they won the quarter by 14-12 points but it was not enough to wipe out the big gap opened by the Angolan at the end of the second quarter.
The Tunisian continue to mount more pressure in the last quarter which they also won by 21-18 points but not without a fight from the Angolan who were not ready to give up their lead with full-time standing at 62-56 points in favour of the Angolan side.
Tunisia, Maha Chelly led the floor with 15 points and 7 rebounds, her fellow teammate, Selma Mnasria added 13 points and 4 rebounds, Rim Gannar contributed 12 points and 5 rebounds with Fatma Zagrouba giving 6 assists and 2 steal.
Angolan forward led her team with 14 points, Nassecela Mauricio had 10 points 9 rebounds and 3 assists while the duo of Luisa Tomas and Ngiendula Filipe contributed 10 points each for their side hard earn victory.
Tunisia will keep a date against Nigeria in her third group-B game at 14.00 hour while Angola battle Cote d’Ivoire in another Group-B game at the Palais Des Sports in Antananarivo, Madagascar.
