SANTIAGO (Chile) – United States, the reigning Women's AmeriCup silver medalist, finished out the 2025 Group Phase with a perfect record as it defeated Mexico 104-48 on Wednesday afternoon at Centro de Deportes Colectivos. It was the second meeting between the USA and Mexico in the tournament. The previous game was in 1993, which ended with a 94-54 victory for the USA. Olivia Miles dished out 10 assists, becoming the sixth player to dish out 10+ assists in a Women’s AmeriCup game since 2003.

    Turning point

United States controlled the pace of the entire game, but it was in the third quarter that the team scored 36 points, outscoring Mexico by 20 points in the quarter alone. Five different U.S. players finished the game in double-digits thanks to the high scoring effort, and the team shot 51 percent together, including shooting 38.1 percent from beyond the arc.

    Player of the game

Gianna Kneepkens scored a team-high 20 points, including shooting 57.1 percent from the three-point line, going 4-of-7, as well as shooting a perfect 100 percent from two-point range as well as the foul line. She also recorded 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals for the United States.

    Stats don’t lie

Forcing Mexico into 28 turnovers resulted in 40 points for the U.S., grabbing 16 steals from its opponent in the win. The team also used its solid rotation and size to outplay Mexico in the paint, tallying 58 points as well as recording 56 of their points from the bench.

    Bottom line

The United States outshone in multiple categories against Mexico, but having a 20-plus point differential on the fast break, in the key, and on the glass made the biggest difference. The Americans also committed only 13 fouls total as a team, playing disciplined and not giving Mexico any opportunity from the free throw line.

    They said

"We're hard to guard as a team because there's just a lot of options. Today we moved the ball super well, we were getting it inside and outside, and my teammates were making great plays," said Gianna Kneepkens. "When we play hard, move the ball, and play together, we're just a very hard team to guard."
