On Sunday Turkish national team trainer Bogdan Tanjevic was officially named coach of the Fenerbahçe-Ülker basketball team.

He took over from championship-winning Aydin Örs, who agreed to disagree with the Istanbul club last week. Tanjevic attracted attention when he was appointed head coach of the Turkish national basketball team, ending his career coaching European champion Yugoslavia. Everyone wondered what the "12 Giant Men" -- as the men's national team is called -- would accomplish with the new coach. Tanjevic immediately led the Turkish national team to the European championships. In the FIBA Congress in Malaysia, he supported Turkey against his own country, allowing the Turks to win the bid to host the 2010 World Championships. Although Turkey's ninth-place finish in the 2005 European Championships was an all-time low for Tanjevic, he led the "12 Giant Men" to sixth place at the World Championships in Japan last year. Time alone will tell whether or not Tanjevic will be successful at Fener.
