TURKEY (TBL BEKO BAKETBOL LIGI) – Efes Pilsen crushed struggling Mersin Buyuksehir 92-73 to improve to 15-1 and remain atop of the national league table at the weekend.
Igor Rakocevic and Bootsy Thornton combined for 34 points as Ergin Ataman’s charges held their opponents to just 28 first-half points and took an insurmountable 69-46 lead into the final quarter. Preston Shumpert and Charles Smith had 14 points each and Ermal Kuqo chipped in with 10 as the defending champions had five players score in double-digits.
Fenerbahce Ülker kept the pressure on the table-toppers with a 94-71 road win over Kepez Belediye. Mirsad Turkcan led a balanced offense with 18 points while Roko Ukic added 16 and Emir Preldzic had 14. The game was all but wrapped up by the end of the third quarter as the visitors were in firm control, up by a score of 66-44.
Third place Beşiktaş Cola Turka also cruised to a comfortable win, seeing off last place Darüşşafaka Cooper Tires 92-66 behind Brad Newley’s 20 points.
Elsewhere, Erdemir beat Banvit 82-68 to deny the latter the opportunity of having sole possession of third place ahead of Beşiktaş.
