TUR - Turkey trim roster to 14 with Ilyasova, Akyol still in group
ISTANBUL (FIBA World Championship) - Turkey have trimmed their preliminary squad to just 14 players with Cem Dinc, Olug Kacaniku and Omer Faruk Asik all giving way. Coach Bogdan Tanjevic looks likely to include Ersan Ilyasova, the MVP of the recent U20 European Championships in Izmir, and Cenk Akyol – a member of that all-tournament team.
ISTANBUL (FIBA World Championship) - Turkey have trimmed their preliminary squad for the FIBA World Championship to just 14 players with Indiana University ace Cem Dinc, Tofas swingman Ulug Kacaniku and FMV Isik center Omer Faruk Asik all giving way.
Coach Bogdan Tanjevic looks increasingly likely to include Ersan Ilyasova, the MVP of the recent U20 European Championships in Izmir, and Cenk Akyol – a member of that all-tournament team.
Turkey finished runners-up to Serbia & Montenegro in the Izmir-based event.
The other 12 players still involved are Ermal Kurtoglu, Kerem Gonlum, Ender Arslan, Baris Ermis, Ibrahim Kutluay, Hakan Demirel, Semih Erden, Serkan Erdogan, Kaya Peker, Fatih Solak, Engin Atsur and Oguz Savas.
Demirel, Erden and Savas were also involved in the U20 event.
Turkey, who won the Efes Pilsen World Cup at the weekend, are in Group C of the FIBA World Championship with Greece, Australia, Qatar, Brazil and Lithuania.
