ISTANBUL (EuroBasket Women) – Turkey’s men have been grabbing the headlines of late after their unbeaten qualifying EuroBasket 2009 qualifying campaign.

But the women’s team also raised a few eyebrows by prevailing in seven of their eight Division A games this year as well.

One of the keys to that team that earned a trip to next year’s EuroBasket Women in Latvia, Saziye Karsli, has parlayed her strong performances with former clubs Fenerbahce and Besiktas, and the Turkey national side, into a move to two-time defending EuroLeague Women champions Spartak Moscow Region.

The 26-year-old forward is thrilled with the move.

"I have been considering the offers from both Turkish clubs and some European clubs for a long time," said Karsli.

"Finally, Spartak Moscow’s offer convinced me on everything, so I made my decision for them.

"I’m proud to be a part of such a good team. Spartak Moscow is a highly respected club and has been keeping its spot at the top of Europe for many years. I can’t wait to meet my teammates to start working on the road to win all titles in Russia and Europe this season."

Karsli averaged 11.4 points and 5.1 rebounds as Turkey finished top of Group B in EuroBasket Women qualifying.

Spartak won the EuroLeague Women title in 2007 after beating Ros Casares in a thrilling final while last season, they overcame Final Four hosts Gambrinus Brno to capture a second consecutive crown with Australia basketball icon Lauren Jackson and the USA's Olympic gold-medal winning trio of Tina Thompson, Diana Taurasi and Sue Bird leading the way.
