ANKARA (FIBA World Championship) - Turkey were pushed to the limit by Qatar at the Efes World Cup but scraped an 89-85 triumph.
Serkan Erdogan had 23 points and Ibrahim Kutluay weighed in with 17 for the Turks, who were knotted at 77-77 late in the contest before claiming the triumph.
Ali Turki, Erfan Ali Saeed and Mohammed Saleem all had 14 points, Saad Abdulrahman scored 13 and Malek Saleem contributed 11 in a losing cause for Qatar.
In the tournament’s other game on Saturday, Lebanon, who lost to Turkey on Friday, suffered an 88-66 setback against Slovenia.
The European team stormed out to a 21-9 advantage by the end of the first quarter and held a firm grip on the contest the rest of the way.
Rasho Nesterovic had 17 points to pace Slovenia, while William Vogel poured in a game-high 21 and Fadi El Khatib 18 for Lebanon.
