ISTANBUL (2010 FIBA World Championship) - Turkey national team boss Bogdan Tanjevic is in hospital recovering from an operation that has forced him to take an indefinite leave of absence from coaching.
The 63-year-old had experienced intestinal discomfort and after seeking medical advice was advised to have surgery, although the exact nature of the problem has not be revealed.
Before having his operation, Tanjevic had expressed the hope that he would be back on the sidelines coaching Fenerbahce in the Turkish league play-offs.
He is supposed to lead Turkey’s national team at the 24-team FIBA World Championship later this year when the country hosts the event.
Tanjevic’s surgery lasted four and a half hours on Thursday and according to doctors, everything went well.
He will remain hospitalized for a week.
Turkish Basketball Federation president Turgay Demirel, Secretary General Mr. Ali Özsoy, Fenerbahçe Ülker director Semih Özsoy, his wife Jasna, son Boris and daughter Bojana as well as national team player Ömer Onan visited Tanjevic.
