ISTANBUL (Beko Basketbol Ligi) - There were some surprise results at the FIBA World Championship in Istanbul this summer.
Turk Telekom certainly pulled one off over the weekend in the domestic league.
Going up against one of the giants in the competition and a team that looks to be headed for the Top 16 of the Euroleague, Efes Pilsen, Turk Telekom (0-3 in the EuroChallenge) won 95-93.
In one of the top performances of the competition so far, 33-year-old veteran K'zell Wesson tore apart Efes by scoring 28 points and grabbing 16 rebounds.
The result capped a disappointing week for Efes, who had fallen at Power Electronics Valencia in the Euroleague a few days before.
Velimir Perasovic, the Efes coach, said : "I was disappointed by the fact that we played such bad defense.
"If we had played our standard way of defense, we could have won the game.
“I think our minds were on the Euroleague. It was an unexpected loss."
Efes have a very important game at Armani Jeans Milano on Wednesday.
They go into the game with a 4-3 record in Group D but are just a game clear of Milano and Valencia.
Allen Iverson and Besiktas (5-3) claimed an 88-75 victory at Edirne Olin (4-4).
Iverson finished with 10 points and five assists for Besiktas, who got a game-high 23 from Serhat Cetin.
Besiktas, who are 0-2 in Eurocup Group B, are at home to Asvel Basket (1-2) in the Eurocup on Tuesday night.
Fenerbahce Ulker have already clinched their place in the next round of the Euroleague with a 6-1 record in Group A.
They claimed an 89-77 victory at Antalya BSB in Turkey to improve to 8-0.
They are the only unbeaten side in the Beko Basketbol Ligi.
Antalya, Banvit, Efes and Galatasaray Crown Cafe all have 6-2 records.
Bornova, Pinar Karsiyaka and Edirne Olin all have 4-4 records.
