TUR - Demirel re-elected as President in Turkey

ANKARA (Turkish Basketball Federation) - Turgay DEMIREL has been re-elected yesterday as President of the Turkish Basketball Federation (TBF) during the fourth general assembly meeting in Ankara.

Demirel's presentation to the assembly included all the developmental changes he had led Turkish Basketball through since 1992 together with continuation projects into the future. This was met with very strong support from the delegates.
 
The delegates decided with a convincing 85 : 51 votes for Turgay Demirel, who will start his fifth four-year term of office at the helm of the Turkish Basketball Federation since its autonomy in 2004. Demirel heads the TBF since 1992 and has managed to gain administrative and financial autonomy from the Turkish government in 2004, leading other Turkish Sports Federations in the same direction.

"I thank you all sincerely for your trust and support”, Demirel stated in his short speech to the delegates after his re-election. “Together with my Board and the staff of my federation, we will continue our work to further develop Turkish Basketball in all aspects."

Under Demirel’s leadership Turkey has won the bid to host the 2010 FIBA World Championship among other very strong candidates. The event will take place in the cities of Ankara, Antalya, Istanbul and Izmir from 28 August to 12 September 2010.
 
Together with the President’s election, the assembly also approved the new Board of TBF for the 2008 – 2012 term of office:
