NOVI SAD (FIBA U19 World Championship) - Turkey rebounded from their opening day defeat to Australia with an 81-58 mauling of Canada at the FIBA U19 World Championship.

Canada, who had beaten Nigeria 82-60 on Thursday, had the game’s standout performer in Boris Bakovic, who hit a double double of 14 points and 10 rebounds.

But his efforts were in vain as his team-mates capitulated in the the face of a powerful Turkey side.

Canada were 23-11 behind at the end of the first quarter and only in the third quarter, when they matched their opponents 15-15, did they look anything like a threat.

The game was lost by then, however, with Mesut Kadir Cipa almost matching Bakovic with 14 points and nine rebounds, while Ogun Sevinc and Can Ozcan both poured in 15 points.

Point guard Dogus Balbay was the assist king, supplying 10 as Turkey ran riot late on.

Both teams are in action on Saturday as Turkey face Nigeria and Canada take on Group C leaders Australia.
