    PESCARA (Mediterranean Games) - Everyone in the Turkey national team set-up knows that competition for places in the country's 2010 FIBA World Championship squad will be fierce.

    To that end, every game in the build-up to the glamorous event in Turkey is important for the players and a few of them are certainly enhancing their prospects of making Bogdan Tanjevic’s side with solid displays at the Mediterranean Games in Italy.

    On Tuesday, Engin Atsur poured in 26 points, Sinan Guler contributed 20 and Cemal Nalga scored 18 while also pulling down 14 rebounds 121-119 triple-overtime triumph over Italy.

    The win kept Turkey perfect at the event at 3-0, while dropping hosts Italy to 2-1.

    Atsur, a point guard on the Turkey team that played at the 2006 FIBA World Championship, connected on four of nine shots from long range.

    Turkey, who are being coached by Alaeddin Yakan, trailed 70-57 at the end of the third quarter but clawed their way back and knotted the contest at 81-81 at the end of regulation.

    Players at the Mediterranean Games are also attempting to solidify their places in the country's squad for September's EuroBasket.

    Yakan's team will face Morocco in Wednesday's Quarter-Final while Italy must go up against Serbia.
