The FIBA AmeriCup 2025 Qualifiers draw date is set

MIAMI (United States) - The FIBA Regional Office in the Americas announced that the official draw for the FIBA AmeriCup 2025 Qualifiers will take place on August 9, in Miami at 4:15 p.m. EST. The draw will be broadcasted live on FIBA's official YouTube channel.

The FIBA AmeriCup 2025 Qualifiers will have the participation of 16 national teams: Argentina, Bahamas, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Puerto Rico, United States, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

The 16 teams will be distributed in four groups of four teams each. Each team will play each opponent in their group twice under a "home and away" format during three windows, which will take place in February and November 2024 and then in February 2025. The top three teams in each group (12 in total) will qualify for the FIBA AmeriCup 2025.

For the draw procedure, the 16 teams will be divided into eight pots of two spheres each, based on their geographical position and on the current FIBA Global Ranking, presented by Nike.

This is how the pots will be distributed:

Pot 1: ARG (2nd) - BRA (3rd)
Pot 2: USA (1st) – CAN (4th)
Pot 3: VEN (5th) – URU (9th)
Pot 4: PUR (6th) – DOM (7th)
Pot 5: PAN (10th) – COL (11th)
Pot 6: MEX (8th) – BAH (13th)
Pot 7: CHI (14th) – PAR (16th)
Pot 8: CUB (15th) – NCA (17th)

The spheres of the odd-numbered pots (1, 3, 5 and 7) will be assigned to Groups A and B, while the even pots (2, 4, 6 and 8) will be assigned to Groups C and D. The numbers to determine the order of the games will not be drawn and will be assigned according to the order of the draw.

The draw will begin by selecting a team from Pot 1, which will be assigned to Group A occupying the No. 1 position in its group. The remaining team in Pot 1 will participate in Group B and in the same way will occupy the No. 1 position for the order of their games. Once both teams from Pot 1 have been assigned, the draw will continue with Pot 2 where the first team selected will participate in Group C occupying the first position in their group. The last team of Pot 2 will also be assigned as position No. 1 but in Group D.

This process will be repeated for Pots 3 to 8, which will confirm the four teams that will make up Groups A, B, C and D and the order of games during this competition.
