    Thailand gets crucial Asian Games win over Hong Kong along with Chinese Taipei, Japan, Kazakhstan

    JAKARTA (Asian Games 2018) – Thailand came out with the biggest win of the day in Women’s 5x5 Basketball in the Asian Games, beating Hong Kong, 86-76. Chinese Taipei, Japan, & Kazakhstan also claimed wins.

    JAKARTA (Asian Games 2018) – Thailand came out with the biggest win of the day in Women’s 5x5 Basketball in the Asian Games 2018, beating Hong Kong, 86-76.

    A halftime buzzer-beating three-pointer by Supavadee Kunchuan gave Thailand the upper hand with a 10-point led going into the halftime break and despite Hong Kong’s rallies to overcome the lead, the Thais were able to stay composed and hold on to win.

    Hong Kong were actually able to comeback to tie the game at 64 in the fourth quarter but Thailand ran away with a 14-2 run after and never looked back again. Kunchuan finished the game with 18 points but it was Thidaporn Maihom’s 24 points and 10 rebounds on 9/14 shooting that sealed the deal for Thailand. Wong Ka Man and Li Tsz Kwan had 23 and 22 points, respectively, but it wasn’t enough to keep Hong Kong away from their 3rd straight loss.

     

    An explosive 31-17 third quarter by Chinese Taipei helped them claim an 84-61 win over India, completing their sweep in Group A. Huang Pingjen had an efficient 11 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists for Chinese Taipei who got a well-rounded contribution from the whole roster.

    Japan rebounds from their loss to China by completely dominating Mongolia with a 107-35 win. Eight players scored at least 8 points for Japan and 4 players logged double-digits for the winning squad. Mio Shinosaki led the team with 19 points.

    Kazakhstan’s 85-73 win over Indonesia puts pressure on the Asian Games 2018 hosts if they want to advance to the Quarter-Finals. A 12-1 run by Kazakhstan in the second quarter blew the game open and Indonesia never recovered. The lead went up to as much as 26 points and hovered around there for the rest of the game. Kazakhstan had five players scoring in double digits led by Nadezhda Kondrakova who had 18 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 blocked shots. Indonesia’s Nathasa Debby Christaline put up a big game for the home crowd with 30 points and 7 rebounds. She scored 12 of Indonesia's last 14 points in a comeback rally that was cut short by the final buzzer.
