    Taiwan - Taiwan finishes second place at 2009 Jones Cup women’s competition

    Unable to stop Twin Tower Ha Eun-joo and Jung Sun-min, Taiwan’s women national squad lost to Korea's Shinhan Bank S-Birds 67-48 Thursday night at Jones Cup women’s competition and finished the second place in the tournament at the Hsinchuang Gymnasium in Taipei County. Shinhan Bank was obviously a better team with a core of Ha (6'2") and Jung (6'9"). Ha had 12 points and 8 rebounds in 14 minutes while Jung had a team-high 16 points as Korea pulled the game away early. Lee Youn-hoa also had 10 points.

    Taiwan was led by Lee Wan-ting, who scored 14 on 7-of-9 shooting, but was hurt by 19 turnovers.

    Japan beat Malaysia 85-40 to finish for third-place in the four-team tournament.

    After an off-day today, the men competition that feature Iran, Jordan, Lebanon, Philippines, Kazakhstan, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan National Team and Taiwan second team, which is called Team Kwanghwa, will kick off in Hsinchuang Gymnasium tomorrow.

    All the participating men’s teams is made up of members of the national squad, which makes the tourney a most-see for local hoop lovers as the upcoming event is expected to be a highly-competitive one.

    Taiwan National Team, under Head Coach Chung Kwang-Suk of South Korea, features a group of stars from the semi-pro Super Basketball League, lead by two of the best centers in the country, Tseng Wen-ding and Wu Dai-hao.

    The returning of 6'9" Tseng and Wu, who were absent from last year’s team, can help Taiwan to protect rebounds against their taller foreign rivals.

    The tournament will also serve as a perfect preparation games for Taiwan to compete in the 2009 FIBA Asia Championship for Men, which will be held from August 6 to 16, 2009 in Tianjin, China.
