Yuta Tabuse, the first Japanese player to appear in an NBA game, was among the 22 names on the Japanese national team that will play in the FIBA World Championships, which start in August in four cities around the country.

Tabuse, who played briefly for the Phoenix Suns in 2004 and is now with the Albuquerque Thunderbirds of the NBADL, is the biggest name on the squad, which was announced over the weekend.

The balanced roster includes four players from the Toyota Alvark, currently 1-1 in their JBL Super League championship series with the OSG Phoenix, led by veteran Takehiko Orimo--a former league MVP--Michael Takahashi, who won five JBL titles with disbanded Isuzu, and longtime national team member Satoru Furuta.

Also on the roster are Walter-Brown Matsuhima of Mitsubishi Electric, and Eric McArthur, a naturalized citizen who plays for Aisin.
