ALEPPO (Syrian D1 League) - Al Jala’a completed a 3-0 sweep of defending champions Al Jeish to win the Syrian Division 1 League.
Jala’a stepped up their game down the stretch to win Game 3 66-65 on Friday and avenge the defeat they had suffered at the hands of Jeish last year.
Mensur Bajramovic’s team, who now head to Manila for the 22nd FIBA Asia Champions Cup, had won the first two games rather comfortably.
Jala’a opened the best-of-five Finals with a 91-67 thumping before moving 2-0 up following another impressive showing, taking Game 2 by the score of 90-61.
In Manila, Jala’a will be in Group B of the Preliminary Round, which includes fellow WABA team and two-time defending FIBA Asia Champions Cup winners Mahram of Iran, six-time Lebanese League champions and current WABA League champions Al Riyadi Beirut of Lebanon as well as last year’s runners-up and Qatari champions Al Rayyan and UAE’s champion team Al Shabab.
Jala’a open their Manila campaign against Mahram next Saturday, the opening day of the competition.
