Statisticians preparation workshop for FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 held in Tokyo

BEIRUT (Lebanon) - The FIBA Regional Office - Asia held a statisticians workshop in Japan from 6-7 May

The two-day workshop in Tokyo involved a review of the FIBA Stats manual and an introduction to the software that will be used during the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 along with a simulation of the software in a live game.

A total of 32 statisticians, most of whom operated at the Tokyo Olympics, attended the workshop which was a key phase of preparations for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 which will be held in Manila, Okinawa, and Jakarta.

The next phase will include online and onsite trainings and workshops in the other two co-host countries. June 27-30 in Manila, Philippines and August 2-6 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

"I would like to forward my appreciation to the FIBA Regional Office Asia for providing our statisticians with this workshop opportunity," said Toshiki Matsuzawa, Manager in charge of Statisticians and Table Officials for the Japan Basketball Association (JBA).

"I believe this workshop has given our statisticians an extra motivation ahead of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 this summer. They learned not only the technical matters, but also the importance and responsibility of their task in a major sporting event like the FIBA Basketball World Cup."

These workshops are part of the Regional Office’s continuous efforts to improve national federations, including the statisticians, who are becoming an integral part of basketball games.

FIBA
