NOVI SAD (FIBA U19 World Championship) - Hosts Serbia are through to the semi-finals of the FIBA U19 World Championship after crushing Turkey 94-56 in Novi Sad on Friday.
Stefan Stojacic and Milan Macvan were the stars of the show, draining 13 points each, while 12-point hauls from Stefan Markovic and Aleksandar Radulovic turned a potentially tricky tie into an exercise in free-scoring.
Oguen Sevinc offered a modicum of resistance for Turkey, but ultimately his 12 points were not enough in the absence of other contributions.
The winning margin, a whopping 38 points, was the largest of any of Serbia's six wins in this year's competition, but for the briefest of moments they were behind.
Indeed, 13 seconds in, Can Oezcan sank two free-throws and Turkey were 2-0 ahead, and by the end of the first quarter they were still in it at 18-10 down.
Even the half-time score of 40-27 offered hope, but then the tide took an abrupt turn.
A 20-9 quarter took the scores to 60-36 and a blitzing final 10 minutes saw the Turkish challenge grind to a humbling halt.
