GENEVA/MUNICH (2010 FIBA World Championship for Men/EuroBasket 2011) - Serbia star guard Milos Teodosic was named the 2010 European Player of the Year by FIBA Europe on Friday morning.

The 23-year-old playmaker led his national team to the semi-final stages of the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Turkey and was named the MVP of the Euroleague regular season.

The award winner was decided by the public and and expert panel.

Teodosic, a star in his own right at EuroBasket 2009 in Poland, became a fully fledged national icon after hitting a deep buzzer-beating three-pointer to beat Spain in the quarter-finals in Turkey.

The 195cm guard averaged 11.3 points, 5.6 assists (3rd among all players) and 3.4 rebounds at the FIBA World Championship and was named to the All Tournament Five.

In the voting, the expert panel (consisiting of media representatives and coaches) ranked Teodosic second best behind Pau Gasol - the winner of the award in 2008 and 2009 - but the Serb won the public vote overwhelmingly.

Prior to the FIBA World Championship, Teodosic helped Greek giants Olympiacos reach the Euroleague Final, where they came up short against Spanish powerhouse Barcelona.

He led the Reds to success in the Greek Cup and was rewarded for his fine play by being named the MVP.
