This project will begin halfway through February and it involves promotional activities for the continental junior boy´s and senior men´s championship tournaments, which will take place next summer in Spain. The objective is to approach the coaches and teachers in all provinces, since they are groups which serve as a link to pass on values that basketball provides. The idea of instilling these values to the students and young players is also part of the program. The FEB has designed a development plan in the form of a pyramid for the next nine months with local, provincial, autonomous, and national activities.
EuroBasket 2007, which will take place in Spain from September 3rd to the 16th, will be one of the principle athletics events of this new year. Spain is preparing to welcome the best teams on the continent, and live out this event in a sport where the country is already a winner after getting the world championship title in Japan in 2006. FIBA Europe also gave Spain the right to organize the Junior Boy´s European tournament, which will be held in August in the community of Madrid. The Spanish Basketball Federation is working nonstop so that these tournaments are total successes in every way. To achieve this, a complete program of promotional activities has been created, among other initiatives. One of the projects that has alread been outlined is called "The Value of Basketball."
The success in athletics achieved by Spain´s national team in the world games in Japan in 2006 was due in part to a series of values shared by this group since the very first day of training camp. Friendship, union, enthusiasm, conviction...these are all words that define basketball is the non-play aspects, and should be the examples set for kids. The FEB knows that the main link to transmit these values is the collective groups of coaches and teachers in provinces throughout Spain. The "Value of Basketball "program is directed at this group. The program takes on the pyramid format, and is to begin halfway through February and finish in September, 2007. The FEB will carry out a final activity that will be developed in two parts. The first part coincides with the European Junior Boy´s tournament in the community of Madrid, from August 3rd-12th, and the second part during the same dates as the Senior Men´s Continental tournament on September 3rd-16th. This project is in collaboration with FIBA Europe, and organization that is dedicated to instilling the values of sports to youth.
