Baku (AZERBAIJAN) - Coming off a silver medal campaign at the Paris Olympics, Spain will look to continue successful run at the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series W Baku Stop 2024 on August 17 - 18.
THE FAVORITES
3 Women’s series stops and most recently a coveted Olympic silver in the bag, Spain have had quite the season. They’ll be looking to add yet another accolade to their tally as they take to court at a stacked Baku event.
The duo of Gracia Alonso and Juana Camilion are back in action alongside Cecilia Muhate and Alba Preito who have been a key part of their season so far. A well-balanced side with synergetic offensive ability, the Spanish side will be eyeing their fourth stop win.
Another team who’ve been consistent through the competition so far have been the Netherlands. Having been one of the most active sides this season, the Dutch have found rhythm and a recipe to success. They picked up their first stop win in Fribourg with a similar core to the team competing in Baku.
Loyce Bettonvil, Janis Boonstra and Noortje Driessen will battle for their second stop win, joined by Kiki Fleuren. They boast a solid perimeter offense with the likes of Boonstra and Fleuren. Driessen has been the offensive hub for the Dutch while Bettovil connects the dots on both ends of the floor.
The top-seeded Netherlands will look to add a second stop to an already impressive campaign.
THE FIELD
Olympic side Azerbaijan will have home support as they’ll be in action in Baku. The trio of Alexandra Mollenhauer, Dina Ulyanova and Mercedes Walker return alongside Taytana Deniskina. Though yet to win a stop, they’re primed and ready to continue off their run at Paris.
A team that has seen success in Azerbaijan already is Italy. They won their sole stop of the season at Gabala earlier in the campaign and are back in action to make it two. Led by Chiara Consolini alongside Maria Miccoli, Laura Spreafico and Stefania Trimboli, they’ll have stop number 2 in their sights.
