Eight players of the team are already determined: Elisa Aguilar, Nuria Martínez, Laia Palau, Isabel Sánchez, Amaya Valdemoro, Anna Montañana, Lucila Pascua and Cindy Lima. Six more young talents will be added from the following list to complete the group of twelve: Silvia Domínguez, Anna Cruz, Alba Torrens, María Revuelto, Tamara Abalde and Laura Nicholls. New younger players, which have been winning medals in the training leagues in the last few summers, will be added to the heart and soul of the team which won the silver at the Euroepan championship games in Italy.
On May 10th, training camp will begin in San Fernando, Cadiz, although some players will have to join up later due to commitments with other teams (such as the the final game of the Women´s League and the Russian League). Evaristo Pérez and Víctor Lapeña are back on the coaching staff, and they will join up with Susana García, the coach who won the gold in the U20 European tournament of 2007.
A game will be played on May 22nd in Segovia against the Czech Republic to prepare the team. The two teams will face off again in Palencia, and Spain will later take on Angola in a third friendly game on May 26th. In Paterna, Valencia, three teams will face off as Spain plays New Zealand and Japan from May 30th- June 1st. The tournament will finish in Alcobendas on June 3-4.
On June 9th, Spain will take on Fiji as the debut game of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying tournament. On the 11th, they will finish off the first round in a big game against Brazil. The first two from each group to qualify will play in the quarterfinals on the 13th, and will automatically go on to play in the Olympics in Beijing. The losing teams of the quarterfinals will fight it out for 5th place, and the 5th place winner will also go on to play in Beijing.
Spain is looking for a third Olympic classification. In 1992 the women´s national team played as the host team, and Spain went to Athens in 2004 thanks to the bronze medal won in the European championship tournament in Greece in 2003
