More than 1,200,000 stickers for non-violence will be handed out to kids and teens who make baskets for peace on World Peace Day, celebrated on January 30th. What´s more, 12,000 posters honoring peace will decorate sports centers, gyms, and classrooms in schools all over Spain. The Spanish Basketball Federation´s goal is that schools in Spain and scholastic basketball programs make more than a million baskets for peace.
The FEB will be present at all schools in Spain with its Value Campaign, which on this occasion will be held to promote and encourage the values of peace and discourage the violence which nowadays has a big impact on basketball and athletics, among other things. This is an event that FEB has prepared within the Scholastic Basketball Program of 2007, and it is supported by the Superior Ministry of Athletics, and sponsored by CARREFOUR, ONO, CENTRAL LECHERA ASTURIANA and MARCA.
Everyone is invited to shoot balls at the more than 30,000 hoops that will be available in more than 10,000 schools across Spain, to help reach our goal together.
If you play on a basketball team and you want to participate in event for peace and against violence, you just have to send an email to programaescolar@feb.es telling us information about the team, along with the request from the team president to participate in this Values Campaign. We’ll send you a pack of materials to be able to participate in this initiative for peace and against violence.
Up against the new tendencies of violence of youth in schools, and the seeds of intolerance that are sprouting up in the school environment, basketball could be a reflective activity where youth, adults, kids and elderly could collaborate for a violence-free life.
We firmly believe that sports can be used against violence, and we want to motivate all fans and athletes to share with us in the dream of our ideal goal: To surpass one million baskets made for peace on January 30th.
The values campaign is made up of 4 events on 4 important dates:
-January 30th: Peace and non-violence day
-February 22nd: value of basketball day
-April 10th: Health day
-May 15th: Family day
The scholastic program is back this year with a much more ambitious design, and with interdisciplinary themes which try to reach out further than BASKETBALL to bring about values and contribute to educative projects at schools regarding with the most relevant social aspects.
