ATHENS (FIBA World Championship) - Slovenia point guard Sani Becirovic can now firmly focus on the FIBA World Championship after clinching his move to Greek giants Panathinaikos from Climamio Bologna.

Becirovic, once regarded as the finest point guard in Italy, suffered a serious knee injury in the 2002-03 campaign while a member of Virtus Bologna but was still drafted that summer by the Denver Nuggets in the second round of the 2003 draft.

He returned to the court in Slovenia with Krka Novo Mesto for the 2003-04 season, left for Varese the following year and then moved to Climamio for 2005-06, helping the team to a runners-up finish in Lega A to Benetton Treviso.

Becirovic averaged 10.8 points, 2.5 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game at EuroBasket 2005 in Belgrade as Slovenia finished sixth to qualify for the FIBA World Championship for the first time.

Panathinaikos, despite the departure of Becirovic's fellow Slovenian guard Jaka Lakovic to Winterthur Barcelona and scoring machine Vasileios Spanoulis to the Houston Rockets, will be among the favourites to win next season's Euroleague.

Greek power forward Dimosthenis Ntikoudis has signed for Panathinaikos this summer, along with Lithuanian internationals Ramunas Siskauskas and Robertas Javtokas.
