SLO/FRA – Slovenia and France to host 2013 EuroBasket tournaments

MUNICH (EuroBasket 2013/EuroBasket Women 2013) – The Board of FIBA Europe on Sunday awarded EuroBasket 2013 to Slovenia at its meeting in Munich, Germany.
The decision to have Slovenia host Europe’s biggest basketball tournament for the first time was unanimous.
The tournament will take place in five venues – Ljubljana, Ptuj, Maribor, Novo mesto and Celje – in the summer of 2013. The dates have yet to be finalised.
France were given the nod to organise EuroBasket Women 2013, after a unanimous decision to support the country's candidature was taken. The venues and the dates for the Championship will be confirmed early in 2011.
It was also announced that Hungary and Italy will organise the two Additional Qualifying Tournaments of EuroBasket Women 2011.
Hungary will host Group A (Bulgaria, Finland, Hungary, Netherlands and Ukraine) in Sopron while Italy will organise Group B (Serbia,Belgium, Germany, Italy and Romania) in Taranto with both round-robin groups taking place 3rd-8th June of next year.
The winners of the two groups will then play each other in home and away games, on 12th and 15th June, with the winner securing the last spot for EuroBasket Women 2011.
Finally, the official venues for the 2011 Youth European Championships were announced. A total of 10 countries will organise the 12 Division A and B tournaments.
Spain and Poland were approved as the U20 and U18 Men's tournaments hosts but the venues will be confirmed at a later date.
