LJUBLJANA (EuroBasket 2009) - Former Slovenia guard Jure Zdovc has been appointed coach of the national team.

The 41-year-old Zdovc has replaced Ales Pipan, who guided Slovenia at the last two EuroBaskets, the 2006 FIBA World Championship and this summer's FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

Slovenia, knocked out of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament this summer in Athens by Puerto Rico, qualified for next year's Final Round in Poland after finishing seventh at EuroBasket 2007.

The Slovenians will take on Great Britain, Serbia and world champions Spain in Group C in Warsaw next year.

Zdovc played for the former Yugoslavia at the EuroBaskets in 1989 and '91.

Following the break-up of that country, Zdovic played for Slovenia at the EuroBaskets in 1993, '95, '97 and '99.
