Slamming Sim of Canada shatters backboard
TORONTO (2015 FIBA Americas Championship) - Canada have plenty of towers of power.
TORONTO (2015 FIBA Americas Championship) - Canada have plenty of towers of power.
There's Tristan Thompson, the 2.06m Cleveland Cavaliers star who raised eyebrows in the NBA Finals.
There is also the national team veteran Levon Kendall, a 2.10m center who has competed with different teams in Europe, and Boston Celtics big man Kelly Olynyk, who stands 2.13m in height.
The biggest and the baddest of them all may end up being 2.26m Sim Bhullar.
At least that's one indication to be drawn from what happened during one of Canada's practices before the Pan American Games.
Bhullar, 22, went up for a slam dunk and ended up shattering the glass backboard.
Bhullar wasn't drafted coming out of New Mexico State in 2014 but did sign with Sacramento on a 10-day contract this past season.
He played with the Kings this summer in the NBA Summer League before departing for national team duty.
Bhullar will be hoping to raise eyebrows for Canada at the Pan American Games.
Strong performances would boost his chances of playing for the national side at the FIBA Americas Championship in Mexico City (31 August-12 September), where Canada will be looking to make the Final to clinch a spot in the Rio de Janeiro Games.
A third-, fourth- or fifth-place finish would seal a place for the Canadians in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
