Dragan Sakota resigned the bench of Crvena Zvezda after a loss at arch-rivals Union Olimpija Ljubljana over the weekend.
Assistant coach Stevan Karadzic replaces Sakota for the second-leg of Red Star's ULEB Cup tie with Real Madrid on Tuesday evening.
The 46-year-old Karadzic was an assistant coach on Serbia's world championship winning national team in 2002 and head coach of Serbia's U19 European champions in 2005.
After joining the club in the summer of 2005 Sakota led Red Star to the quarter-finals of last year's ULEB Cup and to the finals in Serbia's National Cup, where they lost to city rivals Partizan Belgrade.
The club have struggled to seventh place in the Adriatic league this season with a 12-11 record.
Red Star need to reverse an 11-point first-leg advantage when they visit the Spanish league leaders Real in order to advance to the ULEB Cup semi-finals
