COPENHAGEN (Denmark) - Serbia (men) and Germany (women) dominate in pool phase, finishing 2-0 on Day 1 of the FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup on September 5.

    TEAMS

    SERBIA (men)

The Serbian side had a chip on their shoulder coming into this tournament after their run in 2024, and they took no time to handle business in pool phase.

They took down an on-fire Italian side who were the surprise team of the day, coming off an impressive OT win against the Swiss in their previous game. The scores at the end were 21 - 15 with Strahinja Stojacic and Nenad Nerandžić combining for 13 points.

It was a rematch of the World Cup heartbreak for the Serbians as they would go up against Switzerland, the side that knocked them out just a few months ago. This time however, it was Serbia that emerged victorious, a 21 - 17 win bookended by a marvelous showing from Marko Brankovic who notched 11 points in their final pool game.

They’re revving and rocking heading into Quarter-final action on Day 3.

The Netherlands also went unbeaten on the day in pool phase.

    GERMANY (women)

Perhaps fielding a new iteration of their core, the German women took no time to establish themselves in Copenhagen.

They faced perennial contenders in Poland in their opener, a match that proved to be a defensive battle between both sides. Germany however, maintained an edge throughout the game, coming away with a 19 - 12 win thanks to a team-high 7 point game from Laura Zolper.

Another gritty back-and-forth unfolded between them and home nation Denmark who had the crowd firmly on their side. With the action on a knife edge near the end, the game was called and put to bed by Ama Degbeon who came in clutch for the German side, landing the key blows to lead them to victory 14 - 11.

They’re firing on all cylinders and will be a force come Quarter-final action on Day 3.

Azerbaijan were the other team to go perfect in pool play.

    PLAYERS

    MARKO BRANKOVIC (Serbia)

He’s been on fire all season and today was no different for Marko Brankovic. He was key to the Serbian offense, either getting buckets or setting up his side to put numbers on the board.

In their opening game against Italy, Brankovic was immense, both defensively and in allowing the team to find their rhythm. He finished with 5 points in a huge result for the side.

He caught fire offensively in his next game, a difficult matchup against the Swiss. He finished with a whopping 11 points and was instrumental in Serbia finishing pool play unbeaten.

The side will look to Brankovic to steer the ship heading into the crucial knockout games on Day 3.

    BRIANNA FRASER (Azerbaijan)

An absolute force to reckon with.

Azerbaijan turned heads, going perfect in a difficult group, consisting of France and Ukraine, and they have the ever-so-dominant Brianna Fraser to speak of for it.

She got buckets in their opening game against France, putting up 11 points in a 21 - 16 victory. She followed it up with a 6-point game in their next clash against Ukraine.

Azerbaijan have looked like the team to beat on Day 1, and Fraser stands tall at the forefront of it all.
