KAYSERI (2010 FIBA World Championship) – Despite losing two of their main weapons to a suspension, Serbia dominated Angola 94-44 in the second game of Group A action in Kayseri.
An impressive shooting performance by Serbia early on, led by Aleksandar Rasic, gave them a 20-6 lead after a 13-0 run. Rasic scored 14 points and shot 4-5 from three point range in the quarter.
Angola could not recover offensively, having a poor shooting performance from long range and also in the free throw line. Serbia dominated the first half 43-18 with a balanced offensive attack where nine of ten players scored.
Serbia maintained their lead thanks to their suffocating defense and used their bench players to close out their first win of the tournament.
Rasic finished the game with 22 points for Serbia and in the loss Olimpio Cipriano was the only double digit scorer with 10.
After their opening win Serbia coach Dusan Ivkovic visited with FIBATV.Com.
The next game for Serbia is against Germany on Sunday at 19:00 local time.
Quotes:
Kosta Perovic (Serbia, Center): We take every competitor seriously. In this game we also understand the importance of winning. Winning this game by 50 points confirms a good start for our team.
DusanIvkovic (Serbia, Coach): Angola has a young team to respect it. Today after our game last week, I believe we are well prepared and go into the field. A key stat was 26 assists. How do you see how much of that here and there had been a one-to-one advantage for us that we got a huge win. Our unity was good for us. We had to put a different game defensively nd offensively and we suceeded. My team played well, but a team of Angola is also important in Africa, I admit.
Luis Magalhães (Angola, Coach): This was the first match. Serbia was really strong team. As can be seen from these statistics that, nothing much to say. They were a great team and they won.
