DAKAR (Afrobasket) - Senegal have decided to put former France boss Alain Weisz in charge of their national team at the Afrobasket in Madagascar.

Weisz, who led France at the EuroBaskets in 2001 and '03, is the coach of French LNB side Hyeres-Toulon.

The president of the Senegalese Basketball Federation, Baba Tandian, said in an interview with Agence de Presse Senegalaise that he met with Weisz in France on Saturday.

"We will sign a lease in two stages," Tandian said, "Afrobasket first for 2011 and in case of success and qualification for the 2012 London Olympics, he will lead the Senegal team in these Games."

Weisz is the second Frenchman in the past month to take over an African national team.

Defending Afrobasket champions Angola appointed Michel Gomez, also a former France national team coach, as their national team boss earlier this month.

The side that wins the Afrobasket will qualify for the London Olympics.

Senegal were among the pre-tournament favorites to win Afrobasket 2009 but finished a disappointing seventh.
