EDMONTON (2015 FIBA Americas Women's Championship) - Argentina snapped a near six-decade wait for a win against Brazil at the 2015 FIBA Americas Women's Championship as they booked their place in the Semi-Finals of the competition.
Head coach Cristian Santander and his side celebrated their first success against their South American rivals since way back in 1956 as they delivered an exciting and memorable 73-69 victory.
It was built off the back of an influential display by Andrea Boquete, who hit the go-ahead triple during crunch time and finished with 12 points and 5 boards.
The victory tasted sweeter for Argentina since they had to come from behind after it had looked like Brazil would extend their stranglehold on the rivalry past the 60-year landmark.
It meant that Argentina finished top of Group A and they will play Cuba in the Semi-Finals after the reigning champions finished second in Group B.
Cuba wrapped up their participation in the Group stage with a disappointing 92-43 defeat against Canada, who took pole position thanks mainly to 14 points from the in-form Kia Nurse.
The hosts will face Brazil in the other Semi-Final.
Meanwhile, Puerto Rico will face Venezuela for fifth place in the tournament and fight it out for the last ticket on offer for the FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament (WOQT).
Venezuela were first onto the court during the day and gave themselves a chance to make history on Saturday by completing a 55-48 win against Ecuador.
It was a win founded on a near double-double by Ivaney Marques who accumulated 15 points and 9 rebounds.
Puerto Rico eased to a 92-66 victory against Chile after Damika Martinez poured in 20 points.
