Leading by example on both ends as momentum builds heading into a crucial matchup.

JEDDAH (Saudi Arabia) – This may be a younger, less experienced version of the Tall Blacks, but there’s no shortage of leadership at the FIBA Asia Cup 2025. That's thanks mainly to Jordan Ngatai and Taylor Britt.

The veteran pair have been steady hands and standout performers so far, setting the tone in a physical 89-80 win over the Philippines on Day 3 that kept their side unbeaten in Group D. With a direct Quarter-Finals berth up for grabs, New Zealand will need both players firing again in their group finale against Chinese Taipei.

"Jordan set the tone for us, hitting big shots," said young guard Flynn Cameron. "And then Taylor Britt—amazing. Smallest guy on the court, finishing against the biggest guys on the court. It’s just something you can’t predict."

Ngatai’s impact went well beyond the box score. As captain, he drew the tough defensive assignment of guarding Gilas' Justin Brownlee, who still dropped 37. Despite that, Ngatai also delivered crucial buckets down the stretch to seal the win. His blend of composure, physicality and quiet authority continues to anchor the group.

"He had the matchup against Brownlee today, and that was his number one job," said coach Judd Flavell. "But he still stepped up and knocked those shots down. Jordan doesn’t need to say a lot, but when he speaks, the boys listen. He’s got that 'mana.' That respect."

Britt, meanwhile, continues to thrive in big moments. Whether finishing through traffic or keeping the offense ticking, the 188cm/6'2" floor general has been fearless and decisive, bringing energy when it’s needed most.

With a young squad still building chemistry, Ngatai and Britt are doing more than just producing. They’re showing the way.

"This group is hungry," added Cameron. "But now we shift our focus. Taipei gave Philippines a run for their money. We’ve got to be ready."

And if Ngatai and Britt keep leading like this, New Zealand might just be the team no one wants to face.
