ST PETERSBURG (PBL) - Russia international Evgeny Voronov was voted MVP of the Week in the PBL after scoring 33 points in Dynamo Moscow’s game at Spartak Saint-Petersburg.

Unfortunately for Voronov, his team mounted a comeback that came up short in Spartak’s 87-85 victory.

“I do not remember ever having scored 33 points, but this hasn’t made me feel good since the team lost,” said Voronov.

“If we were to win, then, of course, I would have rejoiced that I set a personal record."

Serguei Bazarevitch, the former Russia international that coaches the Dynamo, was left to reflect on his team’s slow start when they were outscore 33-18 in the first quarter.

"We started badly,” he said. “On the other hand, it was an interesting game of basketball that could give pleasure to the fans.”

UNICS Kazan, meanwhile, beat CSKA 63-54, and lead the league at 9-3, though second-place CSKA and third-top Lokomotiv Kuban have the same record.

Evgeny Pashutin, who parted with CSKA despite leading them to the Russian title last season, watched as his UNICS were outscored 26-15 in the opening frame but then battled back.

"After these games can only be enthusiastic comments,” he said, before tipping his hat to this players and saying, “Thanks guys.”

Lokomotiv Kuban won 84-63 over BC Triumph.
