VIDNOJE (FIBA U21 World Championship for Women) - Russia have a chance to go into the next phase of the FIBA U21 World Championship for Women unbeaten after destroying winless Mali 94-25.

Elena Danilochkina and Ekaterina Savelyeva each scored 15 points to lead a balanced Russian attack.

The Africans managed to keep the game close early on and trailed 17-10 at the end of the first quarter.

The tournament hosts then turned up their game a notch, holding their opponents to just two points for more than six minutes of the second period.

The strong defense, and Mali’s offensive struggles, allowed Russia to build a 38-12 lead.

By half-time, the hosts led 46-18 and the rest of the game was a matter of damage limitation for Mali.

Russia dominated, not surprisingly, every facet of the game.

In the rebounding, particularly, they were superior with 66 boards to just 32 for Mali.

Russia have also beaten Canada, Belgium and China. Their final Group A game is on Wednesday against France.

As for Mali, their will looked to get their only victory of this event against China.
