VIDNOJE (FIBA U21 World Championship for Women) - Russia used a strong first quarter as a launchpad for an 87-77 victory against Belgium at the FIBA U21 World Championship for Women.

The tournament hosts stormed out to a 21-10 lead nine minutes into the contest and never looked back.

Elena Danilochkina poured in eight of her team-high 23 points in that decisi ve run.

The Russians would go on to lead by as many as 16 points and held a comfortable advantage for the entire contest.

Belgium got a game-high 25 points from Sara Leemans.

Their inability to box out the Russians was a big part of the home team's success.

    Russia out-rebounded Belgium 48-32.

The margin of victory would have been much greater had the Russians been more accurate at the free throw line. They made only 24 of 41 (58.%) at the stripe, something that will be an area of concern for Russia in the later rounds if they do not improve.
