PIETERMARITZBURG (Youth) - After the first two days of competition some suprising results have come out of the Annual Engen Interprovincial Tournament in Pietermaritzburg.
One of the disappointments at this years Engen IPT are the Gauteng girls, who did not qualify for the semifinal for the first time in 5 years.
This is the same team that has owned the womens under 18 championship for the last 4 years, with four gold medals in a row starting way back in 2003.
It seems however that lack of organisation led to the Guateng ladies downfall.
It also seems that there were quite a few key Gauteng players who did not travel to Pietermaritzburg as well.
The Gauteng girls lost to Kwazulu Natal who are the big surprise of the tournament coming out of Group A.
Kwazulu Natal ladies have made it to the semi-final where they will be playing Free State in the Semi Final today.
In the other ladies semi final Limpopo will take on the Western Cape today.
It's been business as usual in the boys tournament where Kwazulu Natal cruised undefeated in Group A after gliding past all the teams in group A.
They will be playing the Western Cape in the Semi-final today.
In the other semi-final is Gauteng, who look like strong contenders for the final, and Limpopo, who have the biggest inside presence in the tournament with 6'10" Tshilidzi Nephawe.
The boys teams who will be playing for 7th and 8th place are Mpumalanga, and Free State while Nothern Cape and the Eastern Cape will be playing for 5th and 5th today.
In the ladies tournament Northwest and Mpumalanga will be playing for 7th and 8th place while Gauteng and the Eastern Cape will battle for 5th and 6th.
The last day of the IPT is on Friday the 28th of September at St Johns Diocese High School in Pietermaritzburg. The girls final is at 10h15 and the boys final starts at 12:20.
