Road to FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2027 tips off with Qualifiers

    The First Round action gets underway to start the new cycle towards 2027.

    MUNICH (Germany) - The first steps on the court on the road to FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2027 begin with the start of the Qualifiers on Wednesday.

    There are 38 participating national teams competing for 12 spots at the Final Round to join Belgium, Finland, Lithuania and Sweden as they automatically qualify as co-hosts.

    FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2027 will take place from June 16-27, 2027 in the cities of Antwerp, Belgium; Espoo, Finland; Vilnius, Lithuania and Stockholm (Sweden).

    The two windows in the First Round take place in November 2025 and March 2026, before the Second Round is played in November 2026 and February 2027.

    The First Round action sees 27 teams split into six groups of four and one group of three, while the hosts are in a separate group. There are three gamedays per window for the teams in Groups A-G, with two gamedays for the hosts.

    The winners and runners-up of each group, as well as the three best-ranked third-placed teams – 17 teams in total – will progress to the Second Round.

    Belgium are the back-to-back reigning Women’s EuroBasket champions having triumphed in the 2025 edition that saw Portugal make their debut at the event.

    Azerbaijan, Estonia, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, North Macedonia and Norway all start their campaigns hoping to make history of their own by reaching the Final Round for the first time.

    The second window is set to take place in March 2026 when the field for the Second Round will be confirmed.

    The 17 qualified teams will be joined by Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Czechia, Türkiye and Hungary after they participate in the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup Qualifying Tournaments.
