GOLD COAST (Australia) - The Rising Coaches program concluded this week with a presentation from legendary Australian coach, Carrie Graff that welcomed 10 aspiring coaches from the Pacific island nations.

The program was developed for coaches under 25 who were nominated by their national federations and it provided professional development opportunities to help improve their coaching competence.

Graff, the former Opals Head Coach mentioned that the program gave a fantastic avenue for presenters and participants to share and gain knowledge.

"I believe this program gives excellent opportunities for attendees and presenters to share their knowledge and coaching experiences to improve the level of coaching in the region," shared Graff, who led Australia to a Bronze Medal in the 2012 Olympics.

"Opportunites like this are critical to learning and development no matter what stage of your coaching career you are on," she added.

Meanwhile, Northern Marianas Island representative, Marlene Lumabi shared that the program will accelerate the growth of coaching in her country.

This program will benefit CNMI because we are creating future basketball mentors,” Lumabi shared with the Marianas Variety newspaper.

The program discussed theoretical learning and workshop discussion in all aspects of coaching development that were delivered over the past two months.

"We are very excited with this program and look forward to how the coaches are going to use the knowledge they've gained to help their respective countries grow," stated FIBA in Oceania Development Manager, Annie La Fleur.

We are grateful to our partner presenters for sharing their time and knowledge with the participants. We look forward to creating more programs to help national federations in pursuit of their basketball development," she ended.
