    BERLIN (Germany) - It proved to be a bitter-sweet FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup debut for Türkiye team leader Sevgi Uzun as she entered the record books but ended on the losing side.

    On a day when fans packed inside the Max-Schmeling-Halle were capitvated by the first appearance in the competition of Caitlin Clark, it went under the radar of many that Uzun repeated the record-breaking feat of her fellow guard.

    She joined Clark for two exploits. First, they now share the World Cup assists record for a player making their debut at the event, with 11 dimes.

    Second, they are the only two players ever to dish out 10 or more assists at the Women’s World Cup without committing a single turnover.

    However, it didn't prevent Türkiye from falling 89-75 to Belgium as they returned to the competition for the first time since 2018.

    But it did show the class of Uzun and her importance to the national teams in the remaining games.
