The race for a place at the 2027 Rwanda tournament is set to begin in Douala, Cameroon, before other African cities take centre stage in the qualifying tournament.

ABIDJAN (Cote d'Ivoire) - One of the twelve spots for the 2027 FIBA AfroCan will be decided in Douala, where hosts Cameroon will take on Gabon and the Republic of Congo.

The Zone 4 qualifier tournament is scheduled from October 10-13 in the coastal city of Douala.

Other regional qualifying tournaments for the 2027 Rwanda showcase will follow, with the final games scheduled for May 31.

The 2027 edition of the quadrennial tournament will be held in Kigali, Rwanda, from July 2-11.

While Cameroon and Gabon competed in the second tournament in Luanda, Angola in 2023, this qualifier will mark the Republic of Congo's first regional or continental event appearance in over a decade.

Since the inaugural tournament in Bamako, Mali, in 2019, two countries have won the event. The Democratic Republic of the Congo won the first trophy, and Morocco stunned their opponents to take home the 2023 FIBA AfroCan trophy.

This twelve-nation event is reserved for Africa-based players, with two exceptions. The quadrennial competition aims to provide Africa-based players with international basketball experience and promote the game across the continent.
