    QAT – Ahli open second round with a win over Gharafa; Rayyan roll on

    DOHA (QBF Men’s League) - Al Ahli tipped off their engagements in the second round of the QBF League by beating last year’s runners-up Al Gharafa 85-73 on Sunday while defending champions Al Rayyan continued their winning ways with a none-too-tough 83-51 triumph over the winless Al Wakrah.

    Maurice Hargrow (pictured) was the hero in Ahli’s defeat of Gharafa.

    The 195cm guard scored 26 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and dished out four assists.

    Mohammed Beka added 15 points while Manyacka Eyoum and Hashim Zaidan each finished with 13.

    Chudney Gray had a game-high 29 points to go with eight boards and five dimes in a losing cause for Gharafa.

    Brown, Ismail shine for Rayyan

    American Tierre Brown went for 21 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds in Rayyan's win over Wakrah while veteran Yasseen Ismail contributed 21 points and 11 rebounds.

    Young Qatari sensation Targuy Ngombo had 20 points and seven rebounds. Mohammed Salim chipped in with his own double double – 13 rebounds to go with 14 points – for Russell Bergman’s team.

    American Jayson Obazuaye was the only Wakrah player to score in double digits with 23 points.

    Ali’s mammoth effort

    Veteran Ali Turki’s recorded a game-high 32 points to lead Al Jeysh Army’s past Qatar Club 85-71.

    Baker Mohammed had 22 points and 10 rebounds and Sheikh Ahmed chipped in with 10 points.

    Cameroonian Gaston Moliva was the high man for Qatar Club with 25 points. Oumar Seck had 22 points and a game-high 21 rebounds.

    Elsewhere, Al Sadd got the better of Al Arabi 73-64 thanks to
    Daoud Musa’s 31 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists.

    The next set of games will be played on Tuesday-Wednesday.
