LAS VEGAS (FIBA World Championship) - Puerto Rico coach Julio Toro has given Angel `Buster` Figueroa, Angelo Reyes and Carmelo Antrone Lee the chance to earn places at the FIBA World Championship after adding the trio to his Las Vegas training squad.
All three men were part of the side that won the gold medal in the Centro-American and Caribbean Games in Cartagena, Colombia.
Puerto Rico face Team USA in a friendly before two matches against Panama on August 9 and 10 after which point Toro will decide on his final squad.
Toro`s assistant Manolo Cintron, who managed the side in Colombia, said: "As the World Championship squad are very solid, specially in defence, we wanted to give the opportunity to forwards. That’s why Julio called-up these players."
Figueroa said: "It’s an honour for us and we’ll go there (to Vegas) to try to put in a good performance and look for the best position in the World Championship."
Lee was equally enthusiastic about his call-up, saying: "It’s a pleasure to have been named. Now, I have to work very hard. I’m in the best form ever."
Puerto Rico will line up in Group D of the Championship, alongside the USA, China, Italy, Senegal and Slovenia.
