    SAN JUAN (2009 FIBA Americas Championship) – FIBA Americas and the Local Organizing Committee held a press conference on Thursday, August 6 at the Caribe Hilton Hotel in San Juan to make some important announcements for the tournament to be held from August 26 to September 6 at Coliseo Roberto Clemente.

    FIBA Americas Secretary General Emeritus, Jenaro "Tuto" Marchand was along many Government authorities, sponsors and members of the LOC.

    The Municipality of San Juan announced that Coliseo Roberto Clemente will be delivered on August 21 and will have a new floor for the event that qualifies four teams for the 2010 FIBA World Championship.

    In Puerto Rico all the games will be televised on WIPR and also on ESPN Deportes for the rest of the World.

    The games will also be live on fiba.tv and the stats and news are available on puertorico2009.fibaamericas.com .

    Also the members of the 1959 FIBA World Championship Puerto Rican national team were in the conference. The players present were Toño Morales, Antonio “Toñin” Casillas, Evelio Droz, Totin Cestero and Salvador Dijols.

    The 2009 FIBA Americas Championship will have ten of the best national teams of the continent competing to qualify for the 2010 FIBA World Championship.

    The ten countries were divided into two groups. Group A has Canada, US Virgin Islands, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Uruguay. Group B has Argentina, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Panama and Venezuela.
