RECIBO (Baloncesto Superior Nacional) – Caciques de Humacao crushed Capitanes de Arecibo 77-58 to extend their winning streak to six games.

After starting the season with four losses in their first five outings, Caciques have turned things around to win their last six and improve their record to 7-4 to rank as one of the best teams in the league.

Caciques were in front 16-13 by the end of the first quarter and up 30-26 at the end of a relatively low-scoring first half.

After the break, the visitors stayed in control and seven unanswered points early in the final quarter saw them go up 59-42 with 8:30 left to play.

John Millsap scored 21 points, James Mays 20 and Miguel Ali Berdiel filled out the stats sheet with 16 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists.

Jeff Aubry netted 13 points and David Cortés 10 for Arecibo, who suffered their second defeat in a row.

Meanwhile, Cangrejeros de Santurce defeated Mets de Guaynabo 82-74 on Tuesday night.

The game marked former NBA forward Mike Sweetney’s debut with Cangrejeros and he didn’t disappoint, leading them to victory with 20 points and 12 rebounds.

Mets were without the pair of Marcus Fizer and Carlos Escalera due to injury. In their absence, Angel Figueroa had a game-high 25 points while Glen McGowan chipping in with 21.

Santurce used a 13-5 run in the final three minutes to notch their fifth win of the season. The result saw Guaynabo drop to 7-4, still good enough for third in the rankings.

In the night’s other game, Atleticos de San German saw off Piratas de Quebradillas 87-76.

Leroy Hickerson went for 25 points and Donald Copeland added 18 for the hosts, who finished the game with a 17-6 run in the final 4:40.
